Creed Is Back!
It’s a moment of truth for all gospel rock / Creed fans: Creed is back, and now the question is, does silence suit them better? After 5 years of estrangement, they’ve decided to cut the silence and regroup and make some noise, but is it productive? Yes, that is the question.
The hype of course makes one feel as if the world will eventually fall into place, with the sky tearing at the seams with the project that sprang after the estrangement Alter Bridge and all that bull crap. Sadly however, we have little or nothing to testify that this noise isn’t simply meaningless. Youtube is ever helpful of course and giving an ear to some of their AOL sessions, here’s my verdict.
We have all heard the classics: higher, my sacrifice, with arms wide open and you know the likes, now let’s see if those silent years have given them something to brag about. It’s hard to come to a concrete conclusion, however I felt somehow that Scott Stapp (ze vocalist) sounded a wee bit strained. His style is pretty much the same, his approach at singing hasn’t changed one bit and with absolutely no variations but slightly under towed pitches and moments where I sincerely hope I wasn’t imagining the strains in his voice, he clearly needs to work harder to make this work.
I would like to see something fresh, maybe a push to the old stuff, but I didn’t see anything much. However, where the instruments are concerned, I felt an improvement. The overall sound, the combination of guitar, bass and drums sound pretty good and added to it, I suppose is the practice these boys have had during Alter Bridge days. They have that element, that togetherness which somehow excludes Stapp.
Judging is tough; with no new material and having to rely on old songs played after five years…it’s a bit hard to determine whether they are here to stay, or will eventually join the desolation row with a nice goodbye kick, but let’s see shall we? Keep your ears tuned for something new by these guys in the near future and all eyes trained on them as they tour in an effort to keep the distortion alive. That is if you have nothing better to do of course.
Peace mortals.
