Dominating the Metal Scene, males have always seemed to find the stages more comfortable than the fairer sex. But some fearless goddesses have emerged with time to show that they too can scream the hell howls and be called goddesses of metal. With their ‘to-die-for’ looks, we males have no chance to resist them; with some grinding axes with killer agility and others sliding fingers along keys of wailing pianos, these feminine mistresses of their art can make armies mosh. Here are the top ten females who sit on their earthly thrones to whom tens of thousands bow down to.

10. Sharon Del Adel

Sharon is the lead singer and one of the founding members of the Dutch Symphonic Metal Band “Within Temptation”, and despite never having had any real vocal training Sharon’s vocals play a major role in defining the bands musical ethos. An assistant manager at a fashion management company before she decided to pursue her musical career full time, Sharon still designs the bands costumes and merchandise.  This lady, who has lived in over 10 countries, including Indonesia and Sri Lanka, has carved out her spot in our list of metal goddesses with both her matured beauty and undeniable singing ability.

9. Simone Simons

Simone is the lead vocalist for the Symphonic Metal band Epica. A mezzo-soprano, Simone developed an interest in singing when she was just 10 years old and started taking classical singing lessons after hearing her first Nightwish record. She is currently dating ‘Kamelot’s keyboardist Oliver Palotai; and with her fiery red hair, curvaceous figure, sky blue eyes and not to mention incredible vocal talent and stage presence, it’s fair to say that he is a very lucky man indeed.

8. Morgan Lee Lander

Morgan is the lead vocalist of the Canadian all female Heavy Metal band “Kittie” which she formed with her sister Mercedes Lander along with Fallon and Tanya Candler at the tender age of 14. Morgan is famous for her growling incorporated vocals and she is also known for her ability to switch from growling to clean voice often; although she uses different layers in recordings. She has also provided guest vocals for artists such as Serj Tankian and Kataklysm during her career. Shredding guitar while unleashing hell, this metal induced goddess can not only make thousands whiplash to her hellish growls and her demonic axe solos; she also owns her own clothing line ‘Poisoned Black Clothing’ that she founded in 2005 with her younger sister and band-mate Mercedes. A successful business woman and an axe wielding main-woman of an all girl heavy metal outfit; do we need to say more about the astronomical levels of sex appeal she has to us men.

7. Sabine Weniger

Sabine is the backing vocalist of the German Melodic Death Metal band “Deadlock”. While her looks are simply adorable, with an almost school girl innocence about her; her singing ability is outright lethal and slicing.  She stands alongside her partner Johannes Prem in Deadlock complementing his growling vocal style with her clean melodic singing. Deadlock was formed in the year 1997 and released its first EP ‘I’ll Wake You When Spring Awakes’, and Sabine made her first appearance on record with Deadlock on the album ‘The Arrival’ which was also Deadlocks first record with keyboard and synthesizer arrangements.

6. Maria Brink

Maria is the lead vocalist of the American metal band “In This Moment”, a band whose sound she has defined with her ability to rock a combination of screaming and clean vocals elegantly and effectively. Maria co-founded the band “Dying Star” with guitarist Chris Howorth, which after some lineup changes emerged as “In This Moment”. This blond bombshell apart from being one of the most charismatic front-women of metal today is also one of the most driven and doughty individuals. She has overcome a past of child abuse, teenage pregnancy, severe depression and long dry spells as a musician; and has the words ‘We will’ and ‘Overcome’ tattooed on her two wrists and “Believe’ on her knuckles. Both sets of tattoos were inked as a self motivational emblem in her darkest of moments.  And as for her sex appeal, when asked by Playboy Magazine if the curve hugging baby-doll dresses she rocks onstage have any part in her bedroom role-play, she answered “No way! You’d get much more special treatment than that.”

5. Alissa White-Gluz

With her brightly colored hair, bright big eyes and plump features, Alissa White-Gluz looks a picture of adorability. Until she warms her throat and lets it rip that is; it is then that she transforms into a pure metal goddess. Alissa is the vocalist of the Canadian Melodic Death Metal band “The Agonist”. With a sound that is defined for both its harsh and melodic aspects, The Agonist have also performed with other leading acts such as Overkill, Epica and Enslaved. The Canadian beauty also has a great sense of humor to go along with her intelligent razor-edge personality; she took part in Canada’s reality singing competition ‘Canadian Idol’ in 2006, while already under contract with ‘Century Media’, and managed to convince the shows producers to let her stay on the show without signing a contract, all because she thought it would be fun to give the Canadian “teenie boppers” a taste of real metal.

4. Amy Lynn Lee

As a classically trained pianist, influenced by legends such as Mozart and modern artists like Björk and Tori Amos; Amy Lee is hailed as one of the most talented and beautiful women in rock today. With her trademark dark, yet elegant, Goth inspired fashions that she designs herself; this 28 year old songstress has the image and vocal brilliance of a high and mighty queen in the kingdom of feminine rock. She Co-formed the band “Evanescence” in 1998 with guitarist Ben Moody, and has since collaborated with many different artists including Korn and Seether. And with her unique flavor of Alternative Metal; with haunting, untamed lyrics and evocative piano parts; along with her gothic-queen-esque beauty, we men have no choice but to submit to the dark little spell she weaves over us.

3. Tarja Soile Susanna Turunen

As the vocalist of the Finnish Symphonic Power Metal Band “Nightwish” for nine years, Tarja has soulfully carved out her spot in our list as a true goddess of metal. Tarja started singing at the tender age of 3, when she used to stand on a table to sing at her local church events. She has also had an extensive education in music and classical singing; and her vocal range spans an impressive 3 octaves. While her singing voice reaches to a stellar D6 live and on record, she can hit an incredible F6 when vocalizing. Her operatic and technically superior vocals were a defining aspect of Nightwish’s music and she has charmed the hearts of over 400,000 fans on tour while with them. Often called ‘the voice of Finland,’ Tarja with her high cheek boned features and green eyed splendor is pleasant on the ears as she is on the eyes.

2. Christina Adriana Scabbia

This Italian beauty, who looks like she belongs on the cover of ‘Vogue,’ is the lead vocalist of the Italian Alternative and Gothic Metal band “Lacuna Coil”. While she has said that the biggest compliment a fan could give her is to praise her singing ability, we find it a tad bit hard to not mention just how good looking she is as well. Starting her career with Lacuna Coil (named Ethereal at that time) in 1991 as just a session singer and then later being promoted to the slot of lead vocals after major line-up changes, Scabbia has since made a name for herself as one of rock’s most talented front-women. Scabbia who has a Contralto vocal range, which is the deepest female singing voice, has also teemed up with notable acts such as Megadeth, Apocalyptica and Alter Bridge for various guest vocal stints.  She is also apparently a huge fan favorite in the foot fetish community, and has said in an interview with ‘Stuff Magazine’ that she gets a staggering amount of fan mail regarding her feet. And no, for all of you wondering, we did not send any such letters. But with her dark hair, haunting beauty and exquisite body, neither do we blame those who did.

1. Angela Nathalie Gossow

This Melodic, Thrash and Death Metal queen does not need any special mention as to her vocal brilliance, but how could we resist! Her growls awaken and unleash the hounds of hell with a fury and charisma that is unrivalled by any other female in metal. She joined the Swedish Melodic Death Metal outfit ‘Arch Enemy’ in 2000 and has since growled her way to the top as a leading goddess of metal. Angela States that her influences include Chuck Shuldiner (Death), Chuck Billy (Testament), Rob Halford (Judas Priest) and David Vincent (Morbid Angel). With her chiseled beauty and incredible passion and strength onstage, she has rightly earned herself the title of ‘the most metal chick in the history of metal.’ After all, who could resist a blond that can bring so much fire and strength onstage and can also be witty and smart?
